Spring Break 1998 and 1999 Trip Photos

Here are some images of the short trips I took over spring break in 1998 and 1999.

Here is a waterfall pouring out of one of the caves at Carter Caves State Park in Kentucky. This was my first stop in 1998.

Here is the view out of a big sandstone cave in the Red River Gorge Geological Area in Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky.

Here is an ice covered pine tree at Red River Gorge. Although spring was approaching, the area was hit with its coldest weather of the winter. A major ice storm covered all the plants and trees.

Here is a nice arch along a trail at Pickett State Park in Tennessee. The park borders the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area which is located on the Kentucky/Tennessee border.

Here is the river at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

Here is a trillium just bursting from the ground at Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee.

Here is the New River Gorge Bridge above the New River Gorge National River in West Virginia. This is the longest single span steel arch bridge in the world and if you are really adventurous, you can jump off this bridge. This was the last stop on my 1998 trip.

This is a view along the Virgin Hemlock Trail at Coopers Rock State Forest in West Virginia. This was my first stop on my 1999 trip.

The remaining images are all from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. This first image is a view into the valley below the national park.

Here is another view of the terrain. It looks down the national park towards the valley below.

Here is small section of Doyle's Falls.

Here is part of Whiteoak Falls.

Here is volcanic rock outcrop known as Windham Rocks. Note the columnar formations similar to those in Devils Tower National Monument (but on a much smaller scale).

Here is another view of the Windham Rocks. This completed my 1999 trip.
