Arizona Quantum Bootcamp Returns for Third Year

Students, researchers, and educators gathered at the University of Arizona this summer for the Arizona Quantum Bootcamp, a week-long program exploring the fundamentals and future of quantum science.

The Arizona Quantum Bootcamp returned for its third year, this time with more entangled photons, superconductivity, and liquid-nitrogen ice cream! The bootcamp welcomed 34 students, primarily from the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University, introducing them to the basic principles of quantum mechanics and giving students a glimpse of various research frontiers in quantum science and engineering, from quantum sensing and computing to quantum optics, materials science, and semiconductor technologies.

The event was co-organized by Kanu Sinha and Kyle Seyler from the University of Arizona, Christian Arenz from Arizona State University, and Ryan Behunin from Northern Arizona University, with sponsorship from Intel. Several Physics faculty and joint faculty members lectured and presented talks during the event, including Kanu Sinha, Kyle Seyler, Cris Panda, Dal Wilson, Jason Jones, John Schaibley, Tai Kong, Weigang Wang, and Zafer Mutlu. Physics graduate students Aaron Bartleson, Annyun Das, Chloe Marzano, and Jennifer Parra-Contreras led tutorial sessions that equipped students with the mathematical foundations needed to engage with quantum concepts.

This year's program also featured new workshops for high school educators, equipping teachers with engaging demonstrations and classroom activities, including interferometer experiments, to help bring quantum physics concepts to students.

The bootcamp continues to strengthen Arizona's growing quantum community by connecting students and educators with researchers working at the forefront of the field while inspiring the next generation of quantum scientists and engineers.
