Welcome Maya Bernstein-Schalet!
Please join us in welcoming the newest member of our Physics Department family, Maya Bernstein-Schalet! Maya is our new academic advisor. She will work alongside David Smith, providing academic support for astronomy and physics majors.
Maya holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology and a Certificate in Civic Engagement from Wesleyan University. Prior to joining UA Physics and Astronomy, she taught Foundations Writing and Creative Nonfiction Writing courses in the UA Department of English while earning her MFA in Creative Writing. She is dedicated to connecting students with the knowledge, resources, and tools they need to succeed as unique individuals. A bilingual English-Spanish speaker, Maya is originally from Brooklyn, New York. Her interests include hiking, gardening, exploring Tucson’s bookstores, women’s basketball, and crossword puzzles. She is looking forward to supporting the UA Physics and Astronomy student community.
