Chemical Physics Program (CPP)

V9

About the Program

The Chemical Physics program at the University of Arizona provides an elite, collaborative environment for students who refuse to be confined by traditional departmental boundaries. Our research spans ultrafast science, nanoscience, quantum optics, quantum materials, biophysics, and renewable energy, preparing the next generation of leaders for academic and industrial innovation.

Why Chemical Physics at UArizona?

The Interdisciplinary Advantage

In the modern scientific landscape, the most groundbreaking discoveries occur at the boundaries of disciplines. Chemical Physics is not just a sub-field; it is the fundamental bridge that uses the rigor of physics to unlock the complexity of chemistry.

Our students don't just "dabble" in another department. You will gain a deep, theoretical grounding in Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Mechanics from the Physics department, while applying those tools to the intricate world of Molecular Synthesis and Reaction Dynamics in Chemistry.

By joining this program, you gain dual-citizenship at the University. This means seamless access to:

  • The Attomicroscopy Lab: Pioneering the world’s fastest electron imaging.
  • High-Field NMR Facilities: Probing the architecture of biological membranes.
  • Advanced Laser Labs: Utilizing 2D electronic spectroscopy and ultrafast pulses.
Research Without Borders

Traditional programs often silo researchers. Here, a student might develop a new theoretical model to study the chemical reaction then we haevthe experiment tools to see it in rela time and space

Whether your goal is the semiconductor industry, quantum computing, biotechnology, or academia, the Chemical Physics degree is a signal of high-level analytical capability. Our graduates are uniquely positioned to lead in sectors that require a mastery of matter at the atomic and electronic scale.
