UArizona Hosts 2026 US ATLAS Summer Workshop

 

The University of Arizona ATLAS group hosted the annual US ATLAS Summer Workshop from July 27th-29th in Tucson. The workshop brought over 50 ATLAS collaborators from US institutions together to discuss recent ATLAS physics results, opportunities and challenges of AI in ATLAS physics, and the progress of the ongoing detector upgrades in preparation for the High-Luminosity LHC. The workshop was followed by a 2-day data analysis tutorial supported by the NSF's IRIS-HEP software institute. 

 

Organization was led by UofA faculty Rachel Hyneman and Erich Varnes and postdoc Hava Schwartz. The workshop also included sessions specifically targeting early-career ATLAS scientists, such as lightening talks, including by Arizona postdoc Hava Schwartz and graduate students Colin England and Zach Eberle. UofA colleagues Sam Krishnamurthy, Ian Lim, Rebecca Lipson, and Srin Manne, as well as UofA physics alumnus Allison Hughes, contributed to the Career and Education & Public Outreach panels. 

 

The local organizers are thankful to the UofA Office of Research and Partnerships and the US ATLAS Organization for their support of this workshop. This event highlighted the UofA’s longstanding contributions to and leadership within the ATLAS Experiment at CERN.
